What is Permaculture?

Permaculture is a holistic design process, using ecology as a basis for designing integrated systems: food production, community, economics, housing, with an embued ethic of caring for the earth, caring for people and sharing the surplus. That's asking us to limit our consumption and design for abundance and then share that abundance with each other.

We can also apply the principals to design our life. Using thoughtful observation look at your daily practices. What elements contribute to a healthy life and which do not? Waste= food. What areas of your life are there wastes? How can they feed into another system?

This is not just organic gardening, it's the garden of our lives. Understand how nature works and then apply it to our lives. Cleaning waste water. Experimenting with alternative fuels. How can we change the patterns of our behavior to match nature's systems?

Liz Holmgren: permaculture and Spirit

Hi, I am an architect and LEED and Permaculture certified. Currently I am working with clients to create a circular "natural" home (post and beam structure with clay-fiber walls) in Eagle River.  Lasse Holmes from Homer is our adviser.  I encourage all my clients to make their homes as close to net-zero as possible and to employ permaculture principles.

On my own property, I am doing home-scale permaculture by adding sheet mulch gardens. I incorporate sacred geometry because I am…

March against Monsanto May 25, 2013 at 10am at Downtown Anchorage

May 25, 2013 from 10am to 2pm
I thought this was so pertinent to what this group is about, I'm posting this event here. We are hoping to have some activities at the end of the march and wanted to see if we could get people to donate seeds, soil and planting cups suitable for children to be able to plant something that will grow and is not tampered with by Monsanto. Here's the link to the facebook event:https://www.facebook.com/events/156492317845438/Please come!…See More
